Summer

Summer by Martin Kníže

You disappear
While I’m still here.
A toss in the air,
Wind in my hair –
I feel you still:
You were happiness,
You were sunshine in every smile,
You were truth in every mile.
Front porches filled with dreams,
You hung from the moonbeams
Like birds filled their houses.
You changed our lifestyle
Told us we had a life worthwhile.
We called you
Summer.
But you disappeared.

Precious Moments

Precious moments

Slip into photographs,

Where you look in amazement

And have to laugh.

Her first day at school –

When you didn’t want to let her go.

When she learned how to swim in the pool,

And you asked: why does she have to grow?

That time when she lost her first tooth,

When she danced on her daddy’s toes,

How could you forget the truth?

She’ll always be your baby girl

In precious moments

That slip into memories.

Be There

Boardwalk by Christian Holzinger

I wish I could be there.

On that boardwalk, last summer

When you first told me you loved me.

Like fireflies, you lit up my world.

I wish I could be there.

When you told me you’d never leave,

And hold me forever, cherish me forever.

Why couldn’t that have been the truth?

Like summer, you came and left.

I wish I could be there.

Walking along the pier,

Laughing at your jokes

And smiling when you smiled.

Like cologne, you lost your affect on me.

I wish I could be there,

When life was as easy

As the next breath.

But like a dream, I woke up.

Battle of the Seasons.

Winter’s heart is made of ice,

And it melts poor Summer into a puddle.

You see – Autumn was nice,

But Winter makes everything a struggle.

Poor Spring has lost its step,

And everything is turned to white and grey.

Winter eats up warmth,

Like a predator tackles prey.

Bones inside us ache

While the seasons battle on.

Strawberry Dreams

Strawberries are pieces of joy captured

On a bright summer day:

They remind me of dreams I haven’t chased,

Dreams that I hold at bay.

Yes, I hold onto  dreams.

Afraid that the red of mistakes

Could stain my life:

Like strawberry juice.

But what I learned is that,

Dreams with a little dirt,

Just need to be washed off:

Like strawberries.

At It’s Best

I think of adventure,

And crazy, late night talks.

I imagine sparks flying

And fireworks that shake the ground.

I see hearts breaking with leisure,

And lights on the city blocks.

I feel the sun shinning,

And the breeze that’s heaven bound.

It’s crazy, mystical, blinding, and lovely –

This is summer at it’s best.

Iced Tea

They lived down

In a small town.

Married seventy-five years,

Their eyes showed the joys and tears.

She worked in the garden

And he went to beg the neighbors pardon.

The old man worked as a mechanic

And that was how he survived the panic.

Every day when he walked in the door,

He would put his tool box on the floor

And walk over to the table,

Wipe the grease from the car cables

Onto his ripped pants.

She would finish watering the plants

Then go and grab him his glass of iced-tea.

He had it every day, and they lived free

Until that day

Her life filled with gray.

Even though he doesn’t walk through the door anymore,

She still puts that glass on the table and looks at his tool box on the floor.

When the influenza took her husband

She didn’t take off her wedding band.

No, she still made that glass of tea

Because she knew her husband was free.

Daily Tip: Day 27: Healthy Start

Daily Tip: A healthy breakfast is essential for a “good” day.

I know a lot of us are just barely awake in the morning – but as I was sitting eating breakfast earlier today- I realized how important it is for people to have a healthy breakfast.  Without the health in the morning, the rest of the day will go downhill.  I’ve tried having that doughnut and it only results in a sugar rush and a crash later.

There are infinite breakfast possibilities: just try to be healthy because it’ll change the outcome of your whole day.
