America

America by Patrick Tomasso

Oxygen coloring blood red,
Pride flowing from feet to head,
Life worth every deed,
Truth worth every pledge,
Sacrifice worth every advance,
Possibilities beyond circumstance,
Rhythm to liberty’s dance,
America you are a second chance.
Flowers in the midst of rain,
Relief from tyranny’s pain,
Kindness in every vein,
Discernment keeping humanity sane,
Roses of passion in the nation’s bouquet,
Humility embodied in every way,
Justice prevailing in all people say,
America you are the light of day.

Home

Abandoned Nest by Luke Brugger

Your home:
Where you learned to walk
And how to talk,
A space to call your own.
Then years passed
And something changed
Your life was rearranged.
You thought your mistakes made you an outcast.
But home is still home.
It’s not a perfect place,
But a permanent space
Where no matter what, you’ll never be alone.

All Along

Tower by Thomas Brault

We built her up floor by floor –

Until she became a building,

Standing on her own, ready to walk out the door.

There was so much living.

Years ago, she was younger:

Inexperienced and growing.

He and I – we watched her in wonder.

There were so many memories.

Now she’s tall on her own,

Living strong.

We finally found she’s been grown

All along.

Be Yourself

Walking into the Sunlight by Morgan Sessions

I see it in your eyes: fear.

You think there is nothing to hold you here,

But you believe you will find it there.

I can tell you: all you have to do is be yourself.

You try to please others,

But your discontent always hovers.

You ask why they cloud the truth in rumors –

All you have to do is be true.

There is no one who can do

What you were meant to.

There is no one who can live your dream

The way you were meant to.

Be yourself.

The Things I Forget

Waves by Barn Images

The swell came in today,

And I remembered all the reasons why

I treasure every precious thing about these waves.

You see divine creation and how it saves

People say it’s crazy –

The way I admire the beauty in the daisy,

But can’t they see all the magic

That’s destroyed by gravel and motor traffic?

At the edge of the sand,

The wind infinitely blows past the land

You could let nature carry you away,

To that place without decompositions gray.

I smile at this beauty because

It reminds me to puase

And reflect

On all the things I forget.

All My Love

Camera by Chancema
Picture Taken By: Chancema

All my love

Is for you.

Every single heartbeat

Is meant for you.

I saw you from across the room,

That camera in your hands.

My face was captured with your flash

And now all my love

Is for you.

Be There

Boardwalk by Christian Holzinger
Picture Taken By: Christian Holzinger

I wish I could be there.

On that boardwalk, last summer

When you first told me you loved me.

Like fireflies, you lit up my world.

I wish I could be there.

When you told me you’d never leave,

And hold me forever, cherish me forever.

Why couldn’t that have been the truth?

Like summer, you came and left.

I wish I could be there.

Walking along the pier,

Laughing at your jokes

And smiling when you smiled.

Like cologne, you lost your affect on me.

I wish I could be there,

When life was as easy

As the next breath.

But like a dream, I woke up.
