He sat with has back to the river.

If you walked by, you might have had to shiver:

Because he sat at the edge of civilization.

If he fell: he would be gone from your imagination.

The river roared behind him

And the concrete world, on the rim,

Looked safe: but it was cage.

He knew that in this day and age:

The edge of society was the safest place to be.

Where nature meets concrete it’s there you’re free.

  1. Wonderful poetry Sarah. Really love the words, that match the photo and give us a better idea of this man with his back facing the river (of life).

  2. I particularly like “The edge of society was the safest place to be.

Where nature meets concrete it’s there you’re free.” Sublime.

      1. You are quite welcome 🙂 I like your background photo as well, did you take the photo? Reminds me of the tree by my parents house. Hurricane Sandy knocked it down and we thought it died but it started blooming again this year.

      2. No, sadly, I did not take the picture. I found it – Google seems to have everything. Though, I am searching to find a picture that I have, in fact, taken.
I’m sorry to hear that the hurricane knocked it down, I hope that the new tree will grow to be just as beautiful as the other!
